“A death delivery from [her] last trip in Texas” Angelikis post on Instagram
Angeliki “Kiki” is a local Santa Fe bartender whose sharp eyeliner matches her wit. Known for starting and hosting Queer Kink meet ups in her town with a strict no cis men allowed policy you’d think this is the most controversial thing she’s done, but you’d be wrong. Angeliki is a taxidermist and runs an Instagram account dedicated to her collection and other works of her vision. For a long time she kept her hobby to herself out of the fear of how her peers would react to pass time of picking up roadkill and going on hikes to collect ones. She found her medium in dead animals after her second grade teacher, her friend, Chris died from cancer. Taxidermy saved her, it taught her how to be surrounded by death.
A pronghorn skull she cleaned for her client last year.
Her photography marks her taxidermy journey; raw, macabre, and yet charming to me. The aesthetic of her shots is something that I aspire to produce, particularly the dark lighting and unique silhouette each produces. She uses her bone collection in her photography, practices blood cupping to cover herself, her friends, and objects in actual blood, and openly posts the carcasses and decaying process of the animals she vultures as well. NSFW content shows up on her page as well, classy and gritty images that sometimes incorporate her bone work, each time gorgeously so. A siren like energy exudes from her art, whether she’s behind or in front of the camera it draws you in with the caution of death in your mind and a lust to see the “forbidden” in your heart.

“Vulture Culture is about a love and appreciation of the natural world and animals,”[1] which as a practicing vegetarian led Kiki to start hunting for her own meat, something she also had difficulties overcoming but is now a bonafied hunter, camo and everything. My friend, who coincidentally is both not a fan of Kikis art and a vegetarian doesn’t like her art for exactly the reason why Kiki didn’t post it for so long, its shocking nature. While I find the horror something absolutely striking in nature I am glad that I’m seeing it through the screen, being that up close with death right now would start me on a spiritual journey I know I’m not ready for. However it’s a conversation I’d love to pick up when i eventually meet and make art with her. Until then I’m content with scrolling through her feed and supporting her from here!
